Inaugural go-kart Grand Prix on June 18 features 30-plus teams racing to raise funds for nonprofit ArtsQuest

June 13, 2017

BETHLEHEM, PA—As the checkered flag drops at the SteelStacks Grand Prix on June 18, it’s time for the public to get in on all the go-kart racing action as ArtsQuest and Lehigh Valley Grand Prix offer a public racing session on the nearly half-mile track that winds though PNC Plaza at SteelStacks. Members of the public are invited to jump behind the wheel of a high-speed go-kart and test their driving skills as they reach speeds of up to 40 miles per hour.

Cost for the public racing session, set for 4-5:30 p.m., is $25 per person and includes a safety briefing, helmet and eight minutes of track time; proceeds will go to support ArtsQuest and its free programming for the community. Participants can register in advance at www.steelstacks.org/grandprix.

At the SteelStacks Grand Prix, more than 30 local businesses will race go-karts on a road course-style track designed for the event by Mike McCreary of Lehigh Valley Grand Prix. The afternoon will feature three preliminary races between noon and 2:45 p.m., with the top 15 teams advancing to the finals at 3 p.m. Fans will be able to watch all the action track-side, including ‘grandstands’ set up just for the event.

Other SteelStacks Grand Prix highlights include:

Car Display – Chevy 21, along with Grand Prix title sponsors Barry Bartakovits and Jim Stocklas, will display a variety of autos for car aficionados to explore.
