When it comes to Creole culture and Zydeco music, two-time Grammy award winning Terrance Simien and the Zydeco Experience represent hard. They are the past, present and future of Black roots music. This six piece multigenerational and multicultural group is highly skilled, trained and are very experienced performers, and in every profession, experience still matters a lot! Their hypnotic brew of zydeco- roots-reggae-folksoul- gospel and New Orleans jazz (Simien tours with two horns) will lift your spirits, force you onto the dance floor, making your body move and groove!

True to himself and his deep Creole roots, Simien personifies authenticity, and you know what they say, “authenticity is everything!” Simien, an 8th generation Louisiana Creole from rural St. Landry Parish is the 3rd child to French speaking parents Ethel René and Mathew. Terrance himself speaks decent French considering it wasn’t encouraged when he was he was in school, but he remains one of the few in the genre who still sing some of his songs in the language.

He’s also one of the last generation with a direct link to the pioneers of zydeco and in the early 1980’s was one of only two teenaged bands performing a genre that was considered music only for grown folks. He was also very instrumental in the1990’s renaissance of the genre and has been hailed as one of the most innovative artists in zydeco by legit music writers and critics. An outspoken advocate for his music community and Creole culture, Simien has worked tirelessly to elevate zydeco and help it thrive. He is highly respected by his peers across many genres.

Now enjoying OG (legendary) status of an accomplished 40+ year career, Simien and his loyal bandmates/creative collaborators have toured to more than 40+ countries and performed over 7500 concerts. Their Creole for Kidz and the History of Zydeco educational program & performance developed 24 years ago for K-12 and college students has helped raise the cultural IQ of more than 250,000 students, parents and teachers around the globe. Their music has been featured in multiple theatre released films, including Disney, TV adverts, every major newspaper and music publication, like Rolling Stone and Billboard Magazine. They’ve recorded with the likes of Paul Simon, Art Neville, the Meters, Randy Newman, Dr. John, toured with Los Lobos, the late Robert Palmer, Dave Matthews Band and even shared the stage with Steve Wonder.
