The year is 1975. The vibes are weird. The film is a mystery.

In celebration of our ongoing 1975 in Film series, this edition of Unknown Planet throws it back to a time when cinema was bold, gritty, and wildly unpredictable. What are we showing? You won’t know until it hits the screen—but trust us, it’s something strange, unforgettable, and very much of its time.

Curated by Professor Timothy Molchany, this mystery screening honors the golden age of boundary-pushing cinema… with just a touch of chaos.

The Unknown Planet Mystery Screening Series screens a wide range of bold, dynamic, and underseen films from around the world.

Curated by the Frank Banko Alehouse Cinema programming team and a rotating lineup of guest curators, this series maintains the element of surprise by revealing the film only when it starts playing. In the spirit of cinematic discovery, curators select films that many in our audience may have never had the chance to experience—especially in a theater.

Screenings often include bonus content to enrich the experience: moderated talkbacks, live Q&As, and pre-recorded interviews. It’s not just a chance to see rarely screened films in the Lehigh Valley—it’s an invitation to join a passionate community of curious filmgoers who love the theatrical experience.

Cureator – Tim Molchany

Tim Molchany is a Professor of Communication and Film at Northampton Community College, advisor of the NCC Film Club, and a long time member of the Cinema Advisory Committee at ArtsQuest. His love of movies and film began as a young man and continues to this day. In the late 1980s and early 1990s - prior to his teaching career - he worked as the Clubhouse Manager for the New York Yankees AA affiliate that at the time was based in Albany, NY where he attended The University at Albany. Recently he has helped coordinate and support film screenings sponsored by Northampton Community College and shown at The Frank Banko Alehouse Cinemas. He loves films from Hollywood's Golden Age and baseball and The Natural is among his favorite baseball films. "The Natural is a throwback to an earlier era of filmmaking that has the look and feel of the classic films produced in the golden age of Hollywood. It's a must watch for all baseball fans".
