ArtsQuest Announces Fall Comedy Classes: Sketch, Stand-Up & Improv for All Levels
Bethlehem, Lehigh Valley, PA. September 8, 2025 – ArtsQuest is thrilled to bring an exciting lineup of Fall Comedy Classes to campus this season. With offerings of sketch writing, stand-up and improv, these eight-week classes are designed for beginners and experienced performers alike. Each session culminates in a live graduation show where students get to perform in front of an audience.

Are you a business looking to incorporate a fun team building event for your employees? ArtsQuest offers team building improv workshops! These workshops are great for businesses and corporations looking to improve their team’s communication skills, encourage creative thinking and provide an environment for team bonding and fun. Teams will be guided by professional improvisers to learn lively exercises that teach the fundamentals of improv comedy, bolstering confidence while sparking your team’s sense of humor. Improv Techniques for Roleplaying Board Games
Sunday, September 21 | Fowler Blast Furnace Room in the ArtsQuest Center at SteelStacks from 4 p.m. – 6 p.m.
Perfect for those who have little or no experience in improv, attendees will learn improvisational techniques borrowed from comedy improv theater to enhance their role-playing capabilities and gaming experience. Short form games will be played throughout the workshop to give attendees a chance to hone their newfound skills before their next game night.
Improv Gym with Addyson Young
Tuesdays, October 14 – November 4 | Various locations from week to week from 6 p.m. – 7p.m.
In this 5-class series improvisors will be lead through one hour of various warmups, games and scenes to sharpen their skills. While each class will be unique, and attendance at all 5 classes is encouraged, these classes are offered at $10 per class, so if you have to miss a week, or can only make one or two, have no fear, you’ll only pay for the classes you attend. So, whether you’re a seasoned improvisor who wants to revisit the foundations of improv, or an improv student looking for some extra coaching, leave the dumbbells at home and join the Improv Gym!
Improv 101 with Laurie Wagner Storlie
Tuesdays, September 23 – November 11 | Lincoln Elementary School from 7 p.m. – 9 p.m.
Grad Show: November 17
A fun, supportive introduction to improv’s core principles: agreement, action and justification. Great for beginners, performers or anyone wanting to boost creativity and confidence.
Intro to Standup with Glen Tickle
Thursdays, October 9 – November 13 | Iron Conference Room in the Bethlehem Visitor Center at SteelStacks presented by Lehigh Valley Health Network part of Jefferson Health from 7 p.m. – 9 p.m.
Grad Show: November 20
This class is an introduction to standup comedy from both a creative and practical approach. Attendees will learn and apply the basics of joke construction, acquire useful tips for beginners, and receive individualized feedback with the goal of producing 5 minutes of material.
Sketch Comedy Writing 101 with Jiah Peck
Tuesdays, September 16 – November 4 | Iron Conference Room in the Bethlehem Visitor Center at SteelStacks presented by Lehigh Valley Health Network part of Jefferson Health from 7 p.m. – 9 p.m.
Grad Show: November 11
Learn the fundamentals of sketch comedy for the stage and screen. We’ll explore pitching ideas, script formatting, editing tips and actionable writing techniques. The last three weeks of the class will be devoted to revising your scripts and bringing them to life with local comedians for the Graduation Show. This class is limited to 8 students.
Staged Intimacy: Navigating Performance with Consent and Creativity
Saturdays, October 18 – November 22 | Bethlehem Visitor Center at SteelStacks presented by Lehigh Valley Health Network part of Jefferson Health from 4 p.m. – 6 p.m.
Staged Intimacy is a 6-week immersive course that explores the intersection of consent, creativity and performance across film, theatre and improv. Designed for performers, directors, writers and other creatives, this course offers practical tools for building safe, collaborative environments where intimate content can be developed and performed with confidence and care.
Topics Covered Include:
- Foundations of staged intimacy: consent, boundaries and collaboration
- Physical storytelling and emotional vulnerability in performance
- Choreographing intimacy for both scripted and improvised scenes
- Communication tools for rehearsals, performance and post-show care
- Building ensemble trust and creative safety in group settings
- Intimacy in comedy: navigating humor, risk and respect in real time
- Tools for directors, actors and creators to foster consent-forward rehearsal spaces
Improv 201 with Justin Passino
Tuesdays, September 23 – November 11 | Lincoln Elementary School from 7 p.m. – 9 p.m.
Grad Show: November 18
Build on the basic principles of improv and develop your improv skills to make strong comedic choices. By finding and exploring Game you will expand your ‘Yes, and’ abilities while also discovering all avenues that Game can play in scenes.
Improv 301 with Erica Sylvester and Danielle Tampier
Thursdays, September 11 – October 30 | Bethlehem Visitor Center at SteelStacks presented by Lehigh Valley Health Network part of Jefferson Health from 7 p.m. – 9 p.m.
Grad Show: November 3
Take a deep dive into The Funeral Form to develop believable characters, craft compelling narratives and heighten scene partner choices as well as your own. If you are looking to level up your sense of play and improv skills, this is the class for you.
Standup 201 with Aliya Brown
Tuesdays, September 16 – November 4 | The ArtsQuest Center at SteelStacks from 6:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m.
Grad Show: November 12
Hone your joke writing skills, increase your set lengths and move beyond the open mic. Includes writing sessions and guidance on the business of comedy with Aliya Brown, Glen Tickle and Addyson Young.
