“The SoccerFest & Viewing Party really brings our community together in a special way, appealing to the region’s many cultures and soccer enthusiasts, while at the same time drawing casual sports fans who simply love to cheer on the U.S.,” says ArtsQuest Chief Operating Officer Curt Mosel, who heads the committee responsible for presenting SoccerFest. “When the U.S. Women played Japan in the 2015 finals, more than 8,000 people turned out to watch the match. We’re looking forward to having everyone come out this summer to support the U.S. team as it hopefully makes another run deep into the tournament!”

Other activities on June 16 include a special Father’s Day French Toast Breakfast at the ArtsQuest Center, soccer activities including soccer tennis and open play in the mini arena, and a screening of “American Futbol,” the documentary that follows four American filmmakers on their journey from the U.S. to Brazil in search of stories that define Latin America’s obsession with the beautiful game.

Tickets for Grand Prix’s public racing sessions are on sale now

BETHLEHEM, PA–Competitive karting comes to the SteelStacks Grand Prix for the first time as the Father’s Day weekend event welcomes the F-Series racing program on Saturday and Sunday, June 15-16. Racing enthusiasts are invited to watch all the action trackside, with admission free and open to the public.

A competitive karting series for youth to adults, the F-Series holds races along the East Coast, culminating with the official series championship each fall. The F-Series event at SteelStacks will feature drivers competing in two classes – Mini Cadet for ages 8-12 and Senior Shifter for ages 15 and older. The racing action kicks off with practice on the Grand Prix’s half-mile custom track on Saturday from 5-8 p.m., followed by qualifying and racing on Sunday morning and the finals from 1:30-2:30 p.m. Sunday. Over the past decade, interest in F-Series has grown by nearly 500 percent, with some events nearing 200 individual competitors.

“We are honored for this unique opportunity to bring F-Series competition karting to a fabulous place like SteelStacks,” says Marco Oldhafer, CEO of the F-Series. “Of course, working alongside longtime partner Mike McCreary from Lehigh Valley Grand Prix is going to make this an instant success and give the spectators an experience they will not forget!”

In addition to watching all the F-Series action, the public is invited to take part in the Grand Prix’s public racing sessions by jumping in one of Lehigh Valley Grand Prix’s high-speed go-karts. Public racing takes place June 14, 7-10 p.m., and June 16, 10:30 a.m.-1 p.m. and 3-8 p.m. Cost is $25 per person and includes a safety briefing, helmet and eight minutes of track time. Started in 2017, SteelStacks Grand Prix brings together a Who’s Who of the region’s corporate community for a day of action-packed go-kart racing on the Saturday, June 15, of Father’s Day Weekend. The public can also get in on the action by watching the event from the trackside grandstands, as well as taking part in the public racing sessions June 14 and 16.

Festival, presented by St. Luke’s University Health Network, includes outdoors-focused activities and presentations by 25 different groups

BETHLEHEM, PA—The return of the high-flying Keystone DockDogs competition, a new kids’ firefighters challenge and a family fishing event on Saturday highlight the many events and hands-on activities designed to immerse kids in the wonders of the great outdoors during the fifth Step Outdoors Lehigh Valley festival presented by St Luke’s University Health Network at SteelStacks June 1-2. The festival, which is free to attend, includes two days of presentations, hands-on activities and educational experiences designed to encourage children and families to get outdoors, as well as learn about the many wildlife, outdoors and conservation-focused groups working in the region.

At Step Outdoors, children enjoy presentations and activities by more than 25 local and state groups. Activities include archery, biking, gardening, art & nature activities, hiking, nature photography, bluebird box building, laser sporting clays and more. Throughout the weekend, organizations like Hawk Mountain and Wildlands Conservancy also offer presentations featuring live wildlife.

“St. Luke’s, committed to promoting Fit For Life healthy eating and exercise programs, is proud to sponsor the Step Outdoors festival,” says Kenneth Szydlow, Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer of St. Luke’s University Health Network. “Festival activities feature healthy alternatives to screen time, activities which help prevent obesity, diabetes and other serious health issues.”

The 2019 DockDogs competition, which takes place June 1, 8:30 a.m.-7:30 p.m., and June 2, 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m., features athletic canines performing high-flying feats as they leap into a 40-foot swimming pool set up on SteelStacks’ Air Products Town Square. During the competition, dogs go paw to paw as they compete in categories designed to showcase the highest leap, longest jump and quickest retrieve.

New at Step Outdoors on Saturday are a Family Fishing Program offered by the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission, as well as a Kids Firefighter Challenge presented by Kistler O’Brien Fire Protection. The fishing event, which takes place 9 a.m.-noon along the Lehigh Canal on Sand Island, is designed for families with little or no fishing experience. During the event, PFBC staff teach participants basic fishing skills, culminating with the chance to angle for bass, panfish and trout on Lehigh Canal.
